The Little Man

It is hard to believe, but our little Alex is four weeks old. It seems like we just had him yesterday and at the same time it seems he has been apart of our family forever. Just to make sure that I document it, this is what happened on January 16, 2010.

I awoke from a dead sleep at 3:30am because I felt my water start to break. I made it to the bathroom (had no idea a pregnant lady could move so fast) and trying to clear the fog from brain and think of what to do. I yelled for Adam... again... and again... and again... It took 10 minutes for me to get Adam to wake up as he hadn't gone to be until 1:00. What can I say? Neither of us expected the little guy to come on his due date.

I started having contractions at 4:30, at about 5:30 I asked Adam if we should go to the hospital and he was still half asleep and said to me "we can either wait here in the comfort of our own bed or we can go wait in the hospital." I guess he was still pretty tired... so we didn't end up going to the hospital until 8:30. I was 70% effaced, but only dilated to a 1. So we ended up having a long wait like Adam predicted. I got an epidural at about 1:00 (best thing ever!!) and, long story short, I didn't actually deliver until 9:07pm. I was so grateful for that considering they told me an hour before that the nurse said i would probably be delivering between midnight and 3:00am.

The first thing the doctor said when Alex came out was "Woah! Kid's got some cheeks!" And he definitely has those chubby, Brewer baby cheeks. Other than that and my mouth, he looks exactly like Adam... and I think he may have my grey-blue eye color, but we will have to wait a little to see!

Us in a Nutshell

As our family is expanding and we actually have something of interest to talk about, I figured it was time to start a blog. To get this started, here is the spark notes about how we got started.

Adam and I met at a party my roommates and I threw in September of 2006. I really made the best first impression by jumping on the back of his motorcycle in a skirt, sans shoes and helmet. The fact that I survived and we didn't get pulled over by the three cops we passed should have been a good indicator to both of us that something new was about to start.

We did the whole "hanging out" thing and became pretty good friends. I was attracted to him from the start, but wasn't very sure of what he was thinking. In December, I decided to throw caution to the wind and make a play for him... not very successfully (it could have been the fact that I was an outrageous flirt or I wasn't being as obvious as I thought). After a month of trying to get his attention, I decided that if he didn't take the hint after New Year's I was just going to move on.

Long story short, Adam finally asked me out after New Years (thanks Brian for the nudge). We were married on July 6, 2007. After two and a half years of beautiful marriage, we welcomed little Alexander on January 16, 2010. And that is us in a nutshell.
