Alex's New 'Do

So we buzzed Alex's head today for a couple reasons. First it is really hot down here and we thought he might be more comfortable. Second, he has started rubbing the back of his head against his mattress. car seat, etc. creating some funky bald spots across the back of his head. He looks so stinking cute still, but I miss his hair. And yes, I cried.

Winter, Hot Chocolate and June...?

So we spent this weekend in Joseph, Utah. If you are thinking you have never heard of the place, that is not surprising. It is a tiny little town with maybe 500 people there on a good day... and 70+ of those were from our family this weekend.

We had a chance to get together with my mother-in-law's side of the family and Joseph is where she grew up. Coming from sunny Arizona and 110 degree weather, we were packed mostly with flip flops and shorts. some of us had jackets, but most of us didn't. I am pretty sure that we doubled the sales at the Wal-mart in Richfield in two days. Now some may think we are just desert rats and have thin blood, and that is probably true. But in our own defense the weather was predicting snow... in JUNE!! There is just something inherently wrong with that. I guess this is one of the many reasons I live in Arizona. At least our seasons are preidctable; Tolerable, Hot, Really Hot, and You've Got to be Kidding Me!

On Saturday we had several activities going. There was some skeet shooting, and Adam represented us city dwellers by hitting 15 of 15 in the shoot off that followed. Some very brave souls decided to go rafting down a giant canal/ditch (seriously) ending with a few getting wet as one of the rafts sprung a leak. I stayed to tye-dye t-shirts and then assist in the kids activities. I somehow got recruited to help do the face painting, and I apologize for the kids who had me as their artist.

We decided to drive home Saturday night so Alex would sleep. We got home safe and sound about 4:20 am.

Happy Mothers Day!

So today is my very first Mothers Day, and it has already been fabulous. Alex woke us up with his chattering around 6:30, so I got up to feed him, and then gave him a bath. While I was occupied, Adam ran downstairs and set up the scavenger hunt that he and Alex apparently "discussed". It started in the kitchen, up to ALex's cradle, down to the washing machine, over to the rocking chair, and then Alex decided that I had to give Dad a great big hug and kiss before revealing my present; a CAMERA!!

Apparently I have said quite a few times that I wanted a camera over the last few months. Don't misunderstand me, I love our video camera (thanks Penny & Drew), but sometimes you just want to take a picture. And here is my very first picture taken. I love it.

Brand New Chapter

I feel that the last 11 1/2 weeks have been an agreeable prologue and tomorrow is the new beginning. Tomorrow is my first day back at work. While my heart hurts that I will be leaving my baby for nine hours a day, I am at peace. My wonderful husband has been so supportive through my sadness. I am so grateful for my family, my faith, and my little boy.

I can't believe how much joy I feel watching my little boy discover his hands and trying to grab the little toys above him. He is already so big! My husband and I have grown so much in the last weeks and I look forward to how much more we have to learn in the coming weeks and years.

Thoughts of the Heart

My heart is very full today. Alex is eight weeks old, and I am finding it bittersweet. On the one hand he is becoming more alert and really starting to discover the range in his voice, which is so fun; on the other I feel that he is getting bigger way too fast. Poor Adam, he has to deal with my still stabilizing emotions. Everyone said the first six weeks are the worst, but I think I am having a delayed reaction...

Another emotion coursing through my veins today is gratitude. Gratitude for such a wonderful husband who loves unconditionally me and helps talk me through my more difficult moments. For such a beautiful son and the joy he brings into our home. And also for family and friends who help us and support us. Most importantly, I am so grateful for the gospel and all I am learning from my Savior. I am so grateful for His trust in me and the beauty of His Atonement. Words cannot do justice to what is in my heart.

I love you all. Thank you seems so inadequate, but thank you just the same.

Alex's Baby Blessing

This weekend was a very special weekend for us as a family. Both sides of the family came down to celebrate with us as we blessed Alex yesterday. It was a blast! Unfortunately, the four nephews on my side of the family were either hacking up a lung or had some other ailment, so we didn't get to spend mu ch time with the Brewers. We did, however, have a great time with the Hansens. On Saturday we went to SanTan to walk around and do a bit of shopping, plus we busted out the stroller for the first time. I was a little nervous because we had read our particular stroller can be tricky to open and close, but we didn't have a problem. Then we headed back to Adam's parents' house for a barbecue. It was so fun sitting around and talking while we ate, but i think most of us got an ab workout when we started playing games. We played Signs, Big Booty (hadn't played that since high school, i forgot how much fun it is), and other things like that. I still think the highlight was when Jeremy (Andrea's husband) was in tears because he was laughing so hard. It was great.

As I mentioned earlier, we blessed our little Alex on Sunday. It was so beautiful. Words cannot describe what I feel in my heart. I have this overwhelming sense of joy and love every time I think about the wonderful things that were said in the blessing and how so many family members came from out of state to show their love and support. I am so truly grateful to be apart of such a wonderful family and to have such wonderful friends.

The Little Man

It is hard to believe, but our little Alex is four weeks old. It seems like we just had him yesterday and at the same time it seems he has been apart of our family forever. Just to make sure that I document it, this is what happened on January 16, 2010.

I awoke from a dead sleep at 3:30am because I felt my water start to break. I made it to the bathroom (had no idea a pregnant lady could move so fast) and trying to clear the fog from brain and think of what to do. I yelled for Adam... again... and again... and again... It took 10 minutes for me to get Adam to wake up as he hadn't gone to be until 1:00. What can I say? Neither of us expected the little guy to come on his due date.

I started having contractions at 4:30, at about 5:30 I asked Adam if we should go to the hospital and he was still half asleep and said to me "we can either wait here in the comfort of our own bed or we can go wait in the hospital." I guess he was still pretty tired... so we didn't end up going to the hospital until 8:30. I was 70% effaced, but only dilated to a 1. So we ended up having a long wait like Adam predicted. I got an epidural at about 1:00 (best thing ever!!) and, long story short, I didn't actually deliver until 9:07pm. I was so grateful for that considering they told me an hour before that the nurse said i would probably be delivering between midnight and 3:00am.

The first thing the doctor said when Alex came out was "Woah! Kid's got some cheeks!" And he definitely has those chubby, Brewer baby cheeks. Other than that and my mouth, he looks exactly like Adam... and I think he may have my grey-blue eye color, but we will have to wait a little to see!

Us in a Nutshell

As our family is expanding and we actually have something of interest to talk about, I figured it was time to start a blog. To get this started, here is the spark notes about how we got started.

Adam and I met at a party my roommates and I threw in September of 2006. I really made the best first impression by jumping on the back of his motorcycle in a skirt, sans shoes and helmet. The fact that I survived and we didn't get pulled over by the three cops we passed should have been a good indicator to both of us that something new was about to start.

We did the whole "hanging out" thing and became pretty good friends. I was attracted to him from the start, but wasn't very sure of what he was thinking. In December, I decided to throw caution to the wind and make a play for him... not very successfully (it could have been the fact that I was an outrageous flirt or I wasn't being as obvious as I thought). After a month of trying to get his attention, I decided that if he didn't take the hint after New Year's I was just going to move on.

Long story short, Adam finally asked me out after New Years (thanks Brian for the nudge). We were married on July 6, 2007. After two and a half years of beautiful marriage, we welcomed little Alexander on January 16, 2010. And that is us in a nutshell.
